You might not be aware but for the last 18 months there’s been a pretty well kept secret watering hole in State College, specifically A’s Pub at McLanahan’s. If you’re driving by on Allen Street, you might not notice anything different on the outside of the longtime downtown market. But step just inside the door and you’ll immediately notice a change.
McClanahan’s has an in house bar called A’s Pub, in homage to the Agostinelli clan who owns it. One particularly unique thing about the bar is that it’s self-service. Patrons purchase a reloadable card which they then use to activity any one of a variety of about 20 beers on tap. An unusual feature of the system is that the brews are sold by the ounce not the glass. So, it a particular beer catches your eye and you want to sample a bit, no need to purchase a whole draft, just grab a couple of ounces and give it a try. You’ll only be charged for the ounces that you dispense. Once the card is depleted, you can simply add more coin to it and continue celebrating.
If the munchies take hold of you at anytime during the Crawl, McLanahan’s also offers their Agostinelli Deli for made to order subs or has an even quicker Grab-N-Go case stocked with Boar’s Head meat and cheeses.
The wide windows overlooking Allen Street will also provide a wonderful spot to camp out and watch your fellow Crawlers make their way up and down Allen.
The addition of A’s Pub brings the number of establishments on the Crawl this year up to a record 22. A big thanks to them for joining and adding to the fun.
