Thanks to the generosity of the Hotel State College, the Tavern Restaurant, and Bradley’s Steaks, you will be able to purchase wristbands during all of next week.
The Hotel State College will be selling them from 8am-10pm M-F at their front desk. The front desk is located upstairs above the Corner Room across from the entrance to the Allen Street Grill.
The Tavern Restaurant will have bands available during their evening dinner hours. Check with the cashiers at the entrance to the restaurant.
Bradley’s Cheesesteaks and Hoagies is located at 119 S Pugh St, across from the Rathskeller, and will be selling wristbands during their normal business hours. They are open Sun-Tues: 11am-11pm and Wed-Sat: 11am-3am. Check with their cashier.
Also, if you are participating in our sister event, the “Run Rudolph Run” 5K Run/Walk, you can also purchase wristbands at the event the morning of the Crawl (Dec 10th). Participants in both events get a $5 discount (NOTE: our charity still gets the full $20).
During the Santa Crawl, wristbands will be available at both crawl starting locations, i.e. Primanti Bros and Cafe 210 – or at Indigo and the Tavern. If you get to the start of the event and there is a considerable line, consider skipping the first spot and getting an early start at a second one, Tavern or Indigo.
The Santa Crawl is a charity fund raiser. We raised over $15,000 last year through the sale of our wristbands. Because the incidental costs of the Santa Crawl are absorbed by the event promoters, the participating establishments, and our partners, 100% of the monies raised through the wristband sales goes to our charity, the Pat Boland Memorial Internship Award.
The wristbands are $20, the same price as last couple of years. We encourage people to pay in cash to facilitate the distribution of the wristbands, but if you want a receipt for tax purposes, please make your checks out to Penn State with a notation in the memo line that it’s for the Pat Boland Internship Award. Note, 100% of the wristband fee goes to the Boland fund, so your $20 is tax deductible.
The Santa Crawl has become so popular that we have had lines forming to purchase wristbands at the start of the event, so I would encourage all to avail themselves of this early purchase option.
In return for your $20 contribution, you get into all of the participating establishments without having to pay a cover charge. I very much appreciate the generosity of the pubs for agreeing to help out.
Lastly, purchase of a wristband is entirely optional. While raising money for our cause is important to us, our primary objective is for everyone to just have fun. If you’ll only be participating for a short while and feel $20 is too much, skip buying the wristband, but come anyway (you will have to pay a normal cover charge at the bars you go to however). With or without a wristband, you will be warmly embraced.
Thanks to all, a hearty Ho Ho Ho, and see you in a week.
